As if the FDA (Food and Drug Administration) hasn’t already reached historical overreach and oversight on non-tobacco alternatives (vaping products), now the agency has its sights set on regulating nicotine levels in cigarettes and an all-out ban on menthol. At Smokers Heaven smoke, tobacco, and vape shop in Kansas City, we keep a close eye on how and what the FDA has done in recent years, and this year, things are getting somewhat concerning.

While we certainly don’t encourage smoking or vaping in any capacity, we do indeed sell both and believe that our customers should have a choice regarding what they want to do (I mean, we still live in America, right?). Predictably, the FDA has not made public exactly how and when they plan to implement and even enforce these changes. Still, it is worth noting that they are currently in the process of reviewing tens of thousands of applications for market approval on a myriad of non-tobacco nicotine products (vapes). To date, very few have been approved. Historically, the FDA has, for the most part, left big tobacco companies alone, but there seems to be a sea change in the way where these global tobacco entities are buddying up to the vaping industry and pushing their sub-par products to market to regain lost profits due to smokers kicking cigarettes to the curb and choosing less harmful non-tobacco nicotine alternatives. The truth is that we don’t know precisely why the FDA has suddenly decided to regulate nicotine in cigarettes after decades of neglecting any oversight of the tobacco industry, but we do suspect that they have a direction in mind that they have yet to disclose. We keep our eyes and ears open to any and every move the FDA does as we know that it will likely affect our customers and potentially our business. Stay up to date and follow Smokers Heaven for the latest news about all things smoking, vaping, and the future of nicotine regulations.
